Key Factors Influencing Laser Cutting Costs

We’ve discussed in previous articles how the cost of a laser cutting project can be affected by different factors, including the complexity of the design, customizations needed, type of materials, and overall quantity being produced. Part three in our series covers two more factors that affect the cost of laser cutting.

Lead Time

Lead time can also significantly affect the cost of a laser cutting project.  A job with a rapid lead time could cost more because it will likely require more resources and the possibility exists that machine shop staff will need to work overtime to complete the “rush” order. It is a best practice to plan ahead for any precision CNC machining project. This allows the machine shop to schedule the proper manpower and equipment to complete the job within scheduled work hours.

Shipping

Shipping plays a major role in the final costs of your laser cutting project.  Shipping costs must be considered for both acquisition of raw materials and delivery of the final product.
