High-Performance Two-Axis Lathe – Precision & Speed for Job Shops

 

Mazak’s Quick Turn Smart series of two-axis lathes is designed for high-productivity job shop environments. The QT-Smart 350 is said to deliver fast feed rates, high accuracy and rigid construction. The headstock features a 12" chuck mounted on a 40-hp, 3,300-rpm integrated spindle motor. It delivers a maximum torque of 596 foot-pounds and machines 4" bar material.

The lathe utilizes linear-motion roller guides on the X and Z axes to ensure rigidity and smooth cutting at feed rates of 1,811 ipm on the X axis and 1,299 ipm on the Z axis, the company says. The machine also features X-axis ballscrew pretension for increased accuracy, as well as a 12-position, high-speed, non-lift drum turret for rapid tool indexing.  The Mazatrol Smart control is designed for ease of use and features a 10.4" LCD color display and QWERTY keyboard. A pointing device and a USB port for downloading programs are also included. Conversational part programming can be accomplished in Mazatrol language. The control also accepts EIA/ISO programs.   The lathe features an NC servodriven tailstock for automation. The tailstock is fully programmable and drives the W axis on its own AC servomotor and ballscrew. Through the part program, the tailstock will retract to a known position, making center contact with the part under consistent holding pressure, the company says. The positive, independent drive system enables the tailstock to be used to drill holes on a shaft centerline, adding versatility to the jobs it can process.
