Expert Review of Cutting-Edge Turning Machines for Precision Machining
Every month, we’re putting together a Technology Showcase, highlighting some of the print and digital-only product information that Production Machining received from supplier companies. For March, we’re focusing on turning machines, including a chucker-convertible Swiss-type lathe, an 8-axis Swiss-type turning center that features a subspindle, a 20-mm machine with a rotary synchronous guide bushing and more.

Tsugami B-Axis Swiss-Type Machines Complex Shapes
Tsugami/Rem Sales’ enhanced Tsugami SS327-III-5AX, 32mm, B-axis, chucker-convertible Swiss-type lathe has a servo-driven, modular B axis that allows for the cutting of complex parts, complete in a single setup, while applying the capability for through-hole thread whirling or high-speed spindles for small surfacing end mills. The B axis contains live tools (four front, two rear) which can machine in coordination with the C axis, delivering the ability to cut precise angles and sculpted contours. The B-axis functionality transforms this Swiss-type lathe into a multitasking turning center that can drill, tap and end mill at any angle.
Expand Machinery’s Genturn-52 CS Simplifies Setup, Reduces Costs
Expand Machinery’s Genturn-52CS Y2 is a 2" bar capacity, 8-axis Swiss-type turning center, featuring a subspindle and dual C and Y axes for producing complex work in just one handling. There is no guide bushing in this sliding headstock machine, thus simplifying setup while reducing job expenses and setup time.
7-Axis Swiss Lathe Features Built-in Motor Spindle
The NexTurn SA-20B Swiss lathe is a 20-mm machine with a rotary synchronous guide bushing that features up to seven axes (Z1, X1, Y, Z2, X2, C1, C2) and can accommodate 22 total tools. Machining capacity is 20 mm on the main and subspindle, with a 210 mm (8") maximum turning length. The SA-20B is available packaged with a 12' magazine bar feeder, providing overall value in a 20-mm Swiss machine.
Mazak QT-Ez Turning Centers Offer Easy Automation Integration
