Introducing the HTM5-XHD-ZL: The Ultimate Horizontal Boring Mill for Heavy-Duty Precision
Modern milling applications, along with the different types and styles of milling machines, can be confusing. When your machine shop or manufacturing facility is faced with production deadlines, time is of the essence, and operational budgets matter. Fortunately, these concerns could soon be a thing of the past thanks to the latest addition to Summit’s HTM boring mill series: the HTM5-XHD-ZL.
Heavy-Duty Precision Boring Just Got Easier
Today’s heavier and more difficult to cut materials, like stainless steel, titanium and copper alloys, require an equally durable, high performance horizontal boring machine that will cost-effectively deliver laser-like precision and accuracy- all while boosting productivity. And that’s a lot to consider when your operational budget is on the line.
For all those reasons Summit’s engineers created the state of the art HTM5-XHD. This innovative machine can handle complex projects that require large holes bored through heavier, bulkier materials, and work on multiple sides and/or planes.
Standard Features on the HTM5-XHD Model
The following features all come standard on our HTM5-XHD-ZL heavy-duty horizontal boring mill:
Larger table and load capacity
If your operators handle larger, heavier workpieces you need a robust horizontal boring mill that’s up for the challenge. The HTM5-XHD-ZL has an oversized 70” X 78” fully programmable, positioning, built-in rotary table. This model can also easily handle loads up to 12 tons – giving your team plenty of room for those extra-large workpieces.
Extended bedway
Designed to accept the optional tailstock, the extended bedway allows for longer travel distances. The bedways are fitted with fully telescoping steel way covers to provide your machine with more than enough protection.
But that’s not all. Because they always remain in place, the modular way covers telescope and
retract without disrupting saddle or table travel. Not only does this standard feature improve performance and save time, it also extends machine longevity.
Programmable electronic drive
The fully programmable servo axis drives on our HTM5-XHD boring mill gives you peace of mind by ensuring long-term, reliable operational performance.
Electronics
Each load circuit is fitted with a fused or thermally monitored overload device to safeguard your machine’s components. These safety devices are also totally integrated into the control to provide clearly visible display warning messages and/or to suspend machine operation, when necessary.
40 HP main drive motor
For heavy-duty boring mills to perform optimally they need a powerful motor that is built for even the toughest jobs. That’s why Summit’s engineers equipped the HTM5-XHD with a motor that’s full duty rated at 40HP to handle even the heaviest of workpieces.
5” diameter work spindle
To deliver the highest level of performance the HTM5-XHD is shipped with an angular contact-bearing spindle cartridge headstock and standard spindle with a #50 taper. And to ensure reliable precision on even the biggest workpieces the spindle diameter is 5” (125mm).
Designed with an emphasis on accuracy, versatility and longevity, the HTM5-XHD’s spindle can handle an infinite number of programmable speeds, from 10 up to 1800 RPM.
Manual control function
Using the manual to CNC concept, this built-in function allows for full manual operation or Siemens conversational CNC control. The manual control system on the HTM5-XHD features absolute scales, Siemens servo motors and drives, along with UL/CSA electrics.
To ensure precise positioning all controls are located on an operator-friendly pendant with a standard 6-axes electronic handwheel.
Optional Upgrades
Based on your application needs, Summit can customize your HTM5-XHD in these ways:
- Tailstock. Perfect for line boring applications this option features a large casting with hardened and ground ways and a precision ball screw.
- Double pump coolant system. The machine’s flood coolant system has an inground tank and two submersed pumps.
- Vertical attachment. This standard #50 milling machine type spindle will accommodate a wide variety of readily available tooling. The 360-degree, rotation right angle spindle allows for complete milling flexibility when used for more complex applications.
- Facing head. Our optional 19 5/8” diameter facing head attachment can be mounted directly to the spindle face and is designed for operations up to 190 RPM and to face diameters up to 35 1/2”.
