Essential Liquid Ring Vacuum Pump Maintenance Checklist
Like all machinery, liquid ring vacuum pumps require periodic inspections to ensure the equipment is functioning properly. Make sure you are checking off on these maintenance items as you’re doing a walk through.
- Review temperature of bearings. Bearing temperatures should not exceed 140°F in normal operations. If they do, this is likely a result of piping stress or misaligned couplings. In some instances, temperatures above 140°F could simply be the result of too much grease used on the bearings.
- Listen for excessive noise. Strange pump noises could mean there’s something malfunctioning with an internal component, such as a poorly anchored pump, bearing issues or a misaligned coupling. Try to pinpoint the noise then shut off the vacuum pump to make any necessary adjustments.
- Check for extreme vibrations. Internal issues can also manifest itself in the form of excessive vibrations, which are caused by high volumes of internal pressure. High discharge pressure and sealant flow, or insufficient airflow and waterfilled casing during startup can all lead to increased internal pressure. Make sure to shut down the vacuum before making adjustments.
- Inspect motor amperage. Issues can arise when electric currents are not normal. Double check motor amperage to ensure currents are neither too strong nor too weak. If the amperage is too high, it could be the result of excess discharge pressure or seal-liquid flow.
After going through this checklist, don’t forget to consult a vacuum expert if your pump is not working properly. For additional questions, please leave us a comment below.
