Episode 9: What is Isentropic Efficiency?
Welcome to Episode 9 of The Compressed Air and Gas A-Z Vlog! Today we’re covering isentropic efficiency, a tool recently introduced by CAGI (the Compressed Air and Gas Institute) which indicates how efficiently an air compressor converts electrical energy into compressed air potential energy. In other words, isentropic efficiency is an excellent tool that lets you directly compare and evaluate the energy efficiency of different but like-sized machines! Keep in mind that isentropic efficiency is stated as a percentage of an ideal compressor (which we know doesn’t exist). The higher the percentage, the better the compressor at converting electrical energy into compressed air.
