Taimi Expands Global Reach with Innovative Swivel Fittings
I recently had the chance to speak with Sébastien Tremblay, managing director of Taimi, a Canadian manufacturer of swivel fittings. Taimi has been making these fittings for 10 years and today the company sells them in 25 countries.
“It was a pretty innovative design with no ball bearings with a system we call Pressure Spike Protection and Triple Seal Leak protection,” said Tremblay. “It’s a very reliable system. Our main product is actually a swivel cartridge; it’s the base product we use. We screw the cartridge into a mating piece and it becomes an inline tool or a 90° swivel. Other companies make swivels like that but we’re the only one to make a cartridge that you can screw in directly to a manifold.”
Tremblay said that while the company targets a dozen industries, including offshore, robots, plastic injection molding, and cranes, the strongest market—and the one where they started—is the forestry market.
“Forestry’s doing quite good now. The economy is good … we had a very, very, very strong beginning of the year. We closed March at 152% of our forecast, so we were very busy. The end of last year was a little quieter, but now it seems that people are confident in buying machines and manufacturers are back up to full steam.”
