Bosch Chief Digital Officer Announces Renewed IoT Commitment and Future Strategy

At CES, Bosch introduced a bold new branding campaign that places the Internet of Things (IoT) at the heart of its vision. In a dynamic video, a mustachioed tech‑savvy protagonist demonstrates how IoT empowers everyday tasks—from autonomous parking to self‑mowing lawns—highlighting the company’s commitment to seamless connectivity.

“We want to become a leading IoT company,” declared Michael Bolle, Bosch’s Chief Digital Officer, in an exclusive interview following the press announcement. Bolle, who also serves on the board and as Chief Technology Officer, emphasized that this strategy means doubling down on the IoT integration already underway across the conglomerate’s portfolio.

Bolle explained that “the ‘things’ in our case are our products.” From consumer goods to industrial technology, energy, and building solutions, Bosch aims to embed IoT into every offering. “All of our products will become part of our IoT solution,” he added.

Reflecting on the company’s origins, Bolle noted that in 2014 CEO Volkmar Denner set the foundation with a bold pledge: to make all electronic products connected. “In 2014, that was a radical idea,” Bolle mused.

By connecting its products, Bosch can build a comprehensive IoT ecosystem that continually delivers new functionality. “It’s not just a technology game,” Bolle said. “It’s about starting with the customer.” Smart products go beyond sensors and connectivity; they learn from interactions and evolve over time.

Achieving this requires a vertically integrated approach. Bosch manufactures 4 million sensors daily—both for internal use and third‑party customers—and has produced over 10 billion MEMS sensors since 1995. The company also operates its own IoT cloud and maintains a dedicated AI research arm focused on IoT applications.

In a follow‑up interview, Bolle discussed AI adoption, open‑source initiatives, his background in multimedia and semiconductors, and how IoT is reshaping product development.
