MGP Boosts UK SMEs: 1,070 New Jobs Created in 18 Months

1,070 jobs have been created in small and medium sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) through the Manufacturing Growth Programme (MGP).

The programme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), has generated the jobs in the past 18 months.

The initiative was delivered by Economic Growth Solutions (EGS) and has supported UK-based companies to grow, through product development and improvement in processes and quality.

580 jobs are still expected to be created through the scheme once projects have reached a close, and the programme is anticipated to support an additional 1,500 companies between now and March 2019.

As of February 2018, the MGP had secured £2.7mn (US$3.79mn) through contributed grants.

“UK manufacturing has just posted its ninth consecutive month of growth and our SMEs are at the forefront of leading this expansion,” stated Martin Coats, EGS’ Managing Director.

“More than 2,000 companies have now been assisted and we’ve created more than 1,000 new jobs…those are apprentices, operatives, experienced engineers, R&D specialists.”

“The impact has been across the UK and we’ve helped firms as far North as York, as far South as Kent, as far West as Hereford and as far east as Lincoln.”

“We still have £2.5m of grants to deliver and we want manufacturers to come forward and see how they can take advantage of the assistance on offer.”
