DSV Teams with Exotec to Transform Dutch Supply Chain Operations with Advanced Warehouse Robotics
DSV, a global leader in transport and logistics, has joined forces with Exotec, a pioneer in warehouse robotics, to equip its Venlo logistics hub with the end‑to‑end Skypod system.
The Skypod platform comprises roughly 100 state‑of‑the‑art autonomous robots, orchestrating fulfilment for a portfolio of retail brands while handling about 90,000 bins and trays with pinpoint accuracy.
This initiative marks a pivotal step in DSV’s broader strategy to modernise its Dutch warehouses, enhancing operational agility across the supply chain.
The goods‑to‑person solution delivers measurable gains in throughput and storage density, allowing DSV to scale capacity quickly in response to shifting demand or product assortments—without costly structural changes.
By streamlining pick‑and‑pack processes, DSV consistently meets stringent SLA targets, tightens cost controls, and maintains robustness during peak periods such as seasonal campaigns.
The system includes a dedicated mezzanine layer for returns processing, and features automated box opening, closing, and labelling, further reducing manual effort.
“We are proud to support DSV in optimising its Venlo site. Our Skypod system is designed for environments demanding speed, accuracy, and scalability—key for leading 3PL providers like DSV,” said Jan Heijblom, senior sales executive at Exotec Benelux.
“Businesses such as DSV must continuously deliver high performance and flexibility for their customers, and the solution we’ve designed for them perfectly aligns with the dynamic retail and e‑commerce landscape,” added Heijblom.
Barbara Klep, managing director of DSV’s contract‑logistics division, emphasized: “In our warehouse, we deploy cutting‑edge storage systems and automation to respond optimally to customer demands and growth ambitions. The Skypod system grants us the agility to adapt while safeguarding service levels and sustainable performance. Exotec’s contribution is a cornerstone of more reliable, efficient, and sustainable distribution from the Netherlands.”
