Common CNC Machine Malfunctions and How to Prevent Them

Just like most of the technological devices, CNC machine malfunctions are caused by two major things;

Many of the issues that you come across are therefore within your control, and you can do quite a lot to ensure you do not experience such problems. You only need to follow the user manual correctly and do regular machine check up and maintenance. The most common problems to look out for are;

The Material Burns on the Edge

This issue is as a result of blunt tool or if you have a too low feed speed. Check if the power rate you apply is right for the material you are cutting. After examining the tool, replace the dull ones with sharper tools or just increase the feed rate. Also if the material burns on the inner corners of the molds, the solution is similar. You either increase the power speed or replace the tool with sharp ones.

The Material Sliding During Cut

These could show that there is much debris preventing proper location of the material. With time, particles can build up on the machine causing a problem for the holding parts, and this hinders accuracy. As a way of avoiding this, CNC machines should be maintained and kept clean.

Also, the sliding of the material can be as a result of air shortage going through the machine. Ensure to maintain continuous air flow and check the level of coolant to ensure you have a clean and uninterrupted cut.

Burnt Edges of Holes

This is caused by putting the tool in the wrong spindle either putting the left-hand drill bit in the right-hand axle or vice versa. It can also be as a result of applying an incorrect spindle speed. You can minimize this issue by inserting tool in the right rod and changing the spindle speed.

Rough Edge and Visible Cutter Marks

This could probably be as a result of the machine traveling too fast. To reduce this, minimize its speed.

Ensure you do regular maintenance on your CNC machine, and you will not have to worry about the rise in serious issues as you enjoy the convenience of the machine.
