Amarinth Nears Status as First IECEx‑Certified Mechanically Sealed Pump Manufacturer
Amarinth, a world‑leading designer and manufacturer of low‑life‑cycle centrifugal pumps, is advancing toward becoming the first IECEx‑certified mechanically sealed pump producer.
IECEx, the IEC system for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres, applies rigorous quality assessments based on IEC’s international standards. As the industry increasingly demands IECEx certification for both electrical and non‑electrical gear, the need for compliant pumps has never been higher.
Unlike ATEX, IECEx certification requires independent testing and a single, universally applicable certificate that does not differentiate by explosion risk zone. Amarinth’s customers are now requesting IECEx certification for non‑electrical equipment in addition to, or instead of, ATEX.
To meet this demand, Amarinth has begun the comprehensive IECEx certification journey, aiming to be the first manufacturer of API 610 / ISO 5199 mechanically sealed pumps to hold the mark.
The certification process extends beyond existing ISO 9001 compliance. It mandates adherence to several ISO standards, with an independent notified body reviewing overall compliance and product technical files before issuing the final IECEx certificate.
Amarinth recently achieved ISO 80079/34 certification, the quality management system specific to IECEx, as part of its strategic project. This step brings the company closer to full IECEx compliance while reinforcing its ISO 9001 foundation.
Two more standards remain: ISO 80079/36 and ISO 80079/37, covering design and construction of non‑electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres. Amarinth expects to complete these by year‑end, after which it will hold all prerequisites for IECEx certification.
Oliver Brigginshaw, Managing Director of Amarinth, said: “Despite the challenges of the global Covid‑19 pandemic, we have maintained momentum toward IECEx compliance and are confident of achieving certification soon, giving our customers fully IECEx‑certified API 610 and ISO 5199 pumps.”
