Industrial IoT Adoption Accelerates: IFS Study Shows 30% Rise in Asset Performance Management

IFS’s latest research, surveying 200 senior leaders across North America’s industrial sector, confirms a rapid uptick in IoT adoption. From manufacturers to oil and gas firms, executives are now collecting richer data streams, embedding them across multiple systems, and positioning IoT at the core of their operations.

Notably, the study reports a 17% jump in companies gathering IoT data at the level of entire work cells or production lines, rather than just individual machines. This broader visibility fuels more sophisticated use cases, driving a 30% increase in IoT-enabled asset performance management.

Meanwhile, 10% of respondents noted higher use of IoT to monitor customer equipment, hinting at a shift toward proactive, data‑driven field service strategies.

Despite these gains, only 16% of firms have successfully merged IoT data streams with their ERP platforms—a gap that could limit the full commercial potential of digital transformation.
