Emerson Expands Automation Capabilities with Acquisition of GE’s Intelligent Platforms Division
Emerson has announced the acquisition of GE’s Intelligent Platforms, a move that broadens its automation portfolio across process, hybrid and discrete markets.
Headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia, Intelligent Platforms employs around 650 professionals worldwide and generated $210 million in sales in 2017. With a 25‑year legacy in industrial automation, the business specializes in machine control, industrial computing, I/O and networking devices, as well as integrated project and software solutions.
“Adding GE’s Intelligent Platforms strengthens Emerson’s position in the automation arena and expands our ability to serve process, hybrid and discrete sectors,” said David N. Farr, Chairman and CEO of Emerson. “This investment complements our process‑control expertise and delivers richer solutions for our customers.”
Both Emerson and Intelligent Platforms will continue to drive digital transformation in their target markets. The latter recently launched a suite of cloud‑connected controllers and devices designed to make plants smarter—a perfect fit for Emerson’s Plantweb digital ecosystem and focus on the industrial Internet of Things.
“The transaction positions Intelligent Platforms for accelerated growth while allowing GE Power to reinvest in future‑ready energy technologies and supply reliable, affordable electricity worldwide,” said Russell Stokes, President and CEO of GE Power.
The deal is slated to close in the first half of fiscal 2019, pending regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.
