Discover Syracuse’s Cutting‑Edge CAD Fabrication Laboratory
In a recent initiative, we leveraged SOLIDWORKS to design and build a dedicated 3D printing hub within our Syracuse office. The result—a space now known as the CADimensions Fabrication Laboratory, affectionately dubbed the CAD Fab Lab—offers a cohesive blend of advanced hardware and a layout engineered for efficiency.
The original floor plan accounted for a range of Stratasys machines, including the Objet500 Connex3, Fortus 250mc, Fortus 400mc, uPrint SE, Objet30 Pro, and Connex260. Each unit was positioned to maximize visibility and ease of use.
Below are photographs of the completed lab, showcasing the thoughtful arrangement of equipment and work surfaces.
Introducing the CAD Fab Lab
Using SOLIDWORKS, we designed custom wall signs that were subsequently printed on our FDM printers, adding a personalized touch to the environment. During the build, we sold the Connex260 we had originally planned to display, which prompted a subtle reconfiguration of the space.
Looking ahead, we’ll be adding a Connex3, enabling multi‑color printing capabilities. We’ve also incorporated Makerbot’s latest Z18 model, a machine that requires significant room but is well worth the investment for our expanding print portfolio.
We positioned the Fortus 250 and uPrint SE side by side, with the 5th‑generation Makerbot placed on the adjacent desk. All three printers are wired to our office network, allowing team members to access and manage them remotely from their desks. Additional shelving provides organized storage for material cartridges.
Ultimately, we’re thrilled with how the CAD Fab Lab turned out. It now serves as a showcase for the high‑performance machines we use daily and a testament to our commitment to innovation.
When you’re next in Syracuse, we invite you to visit and experience this state‑of‑the‑art facility firsthand.
