IIC and OpenFog Unite to Lead Distributed Computing for Industrial IoT
In a landmark partnership, the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) and the OpenFog Foundation have joined forces, creating a unified organization poised to spearhead the next generation of distributed computing across devices, fog, edge, and cloud.
As Vice Chair of the IIC and one of the inaugural members of OpenFog, I am thrilled to announce that this collaboration marks a decisive step forward for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). By combining the IIC’s deep industry focus with OpenFog’s cutting‑edge distributed architecture, we now offer a single, authoritative voice for the IIoT ecosystem.
Before this merger, the IIC and OpenFog were already the leading horizontal consortia in IoT. Together, we unify nearly 300 member companies, 50 liaison partners, regional chapters in five countries, dozens of academic institutions, almost 30 dedicated testbeds, and strategic ties with multiple other consortia and standards development organizations (SDOs). This breadth and depth uniquely position us to shape the future of IoT.
