Centric Technologies Unveils Automated Metalworking Fluid Control System for Smarter, Longer-Lasting Machine Tools

Cutting fluid is a critical component of machining. It plays a crucial role in lubrication and cooling during the cutting process, in order to produce and maintain quality parts and maximize the life of machine tools. Centric Technologies mentions that this critical step has remained mostly manual, even as the industry moves toward smart technology and integrates remote monitoring on the shop floor.

The Will-Fill automated fluid cooling system works similarly to a standard fluid control system, but with the key difference that it is hooked up to an incoming supply of water and oil, eliminating the need for manual filling and adjusting. Once connected to WiFi or LAN, fluid control operations can be managed via a mobile dashboard. This dashboard can be accessed on a computer or mobile device, and filling, refilling, analyzing and adjustments can be made from anywhere with an internet connection. The dashboard also allows for pre-set conditions, letting users establish pre-defined settings and thresholds specific to individual needs and operations.

This system analyzes and controls seven parameters: concentration of the oil and water mixture, coolant level and temperature, pH levels, water hardness and usage of both oil and water. Will-Fill can send emails and alerts regarding these functions, that will notify users in real time if any one of these factors deviates from pre-set parameters. The system is equipped with the ability to self-correct if and when this occurs. The company claims that by using Will-Fill, residue buildup within the machine is reduced, because the automated system does not overfill oil or water (which also helps to reduce product waste and cut costs).

The dashboard function is also used to capture and archive the system information it presents, allowing for archiving, data extraction and running reports with ease.
