Bin Picking Studio 1.11 & Locator Studio 1.4: Advanced Scanning, Precise Alignment, Multi-ROI Localization

In November 2025, we released the latest versions of our Bin Picking Studio and Locator Studio. This update is focused on one thing: delivering more power and precision to your fingertips.

We’ve fundamentally enhanced the functionality of our localization engines, unlocked next-generation scanning with PhoXi 3D Scanner Gen3 support, and achieved a new level of accuracy for multi-sensor calibration.

These are major enhancements that will optimize your projects, and we are excited to explain them in detail.

Features Overview:

PhoXi Scanner Gen3 Support & PhoXi Control 1.16

To get the most out of our new hardware, we’ve updated the included PhoXi Control software to version 1.16. This update is the key that unlocks support for our brand-new PhoXi 3D Scanner Gen3. This new scanner is equipped with updated technology designed to significantly improve scanning performance:

Additionally, the latest PhoXi Control introduces an updated Maintain menu, consolidating all maintenance utilities in one place. This includes the Maintenance Tool, which allows users to apply calibration patches directly to the device. The update also delivers several user experience enhancements for smoother operation.

Multiple Localization Regions of Interest

Telling your localization engine precisely where to search for objects is incredibly important. We do this by defining a Region of Interest (ROI), often known as a ‘bounding box.’ Configuring this box on the 3D scene is a simple step that offers significant benefits:

Introducing Multiple Bounding Boxes

The latest update to the localization engine introduces the capability to configure multiple bounding boxes within a single vision system. This enhancement makes your application even more powerful:

In short, the robot selects the active bounding box on the fly during the solution runtime via a new action request implemented in the latest robot module version.

Fine-Alignment for Multi-Sensor Calibration

If you use our MultiView feature with multiple 3D sensors, you know that getting them perfectly aligned is the most critical step. This multi-sensor calibration ensures all sensors operate in a single, shared coordinate space.

Our standard method uses a marker board to get this alignment. While effective, it can sometimes lead to tiny, cumulative inaccuracies, especially in complex setups or with larger sensor models.

To solve this, we’ve introduced a new feature called Calibration Fine-Alignment.

Think of it as a “second check.” After the initial marker board calibration, this optional feature intelligently uses the entire captured scene—not just the board—to fine-tune the alignment between the sensor scans. It’s like taking a precise measurement and then checking it against the whole environment to be absolutely sure.

This process effectively mitigates those small, cumulative errors, resulting in a significant improvement in calibration accuracy. Since precise calibration is the key to robust localization, this enhancement dramatically boosts your application’s overall performance and reliability.

Layer Depth Definition

Precision Depalletizing: Introducing Layer Depth Definition

In some logistics use cases, depalletizing needs to happen in a very specific order: strictly one layer at a time. If the robot tries to grab something from a lower layer, you risk collisions, damaged goods, or a full production stop.

We’ve introduced Layer Depth Definition in Locator Studio to avoid this.

It’s a simple but powerful new option for our AI localization. You just need to define the exact depth or “thickness” of a single layer of your objects.

Once you do that, the system becomes much smarter:

This means you can trust the AI to manage the stack’s geometry. The robot will never be told to pick an object that could damage the stack or its own gripper, ensuring a much more stable and reliable application, even for complex scenes.

CAD Localization Profile Optimization

If you work with a CAD-based localization project, you might have felt that the project configuration files (the PBCF archives) can be a bit too “heavy.”

This happens because the archive stores the entire pre-trained model for your CAD geometry, and its size depends on your settings. We know that in any automated solution, smaller files are always better—they make operations faster and management much simpler.

So, we’ve introduced significant new optimizations within the CAD localization engine to tackle this. The result is the profile size that can now be decreased to as little as 10% of its original size.

This major file reduction instantly translates to:

Introducing Profile Optimization

We have incorporated significant new optimizations within the CAD localization engine, which dramatically reduce this overhead.

The result? The profile size can now be decreased to as little as 10% of its original size.

This major file reduction instantly translates to:

The best part is that you don’t have to do anything. All newly created localization profiles are automatically saved in this highly efficient format. Plus, any profiles from older software versions are automatically migrated to the new, optimized format the very first time you use them in this update.

Transparent Software Modules Overview

We want to make it easy for you to see exactly what your system can do and what features you can add.

To help with this, we’ve added a new “Software Modules” page to the web interface.

This new page gives you a simple, clear overview for managing your Studio version:

This gives you a single, definitive place to see all the potential functionalities you can use. If you see a module you’d like to add, simply contact your sales representative to get it unlocked.
