Manufacturers who have spent a lifetime in this industry know that change is constant. Manual processes gave way to automation, electrification, and today, digitalization. Yet, the bedrock of success—quality, reliability, cost control, and customer focus—has never wavered. By examining a century of evolution, we uncover three timeless principles that still shape the industry.

A Century of Change

Rather than catalog every technological milestone, this overview highlights how manufacturing has repeatedly reinforced its core fundamentals.

Early production relied on manual labor, hydraulic machines, and isolated operations. That model suited local markets, modest volumes, and simple products. As demand grew and customers demanded higher quality, consistency, and lower prices, scaling became challenging. Gradual shifts toward automated, multi‑use “one‑and‑done” systems enabled consistent, accurate, and cost‑effective production.

A pivotal turning point was electrification. Electric controls opened the door to robotics and automated machinery, allowing routine tasks to be handled by reliable, repeatable systems. Automation, fueled by electrification, raised quality, reliability, and efficiency, accelerating output and reducing costs while reshaping the role of factory workers from repetitive labor to operators of sophisticated equipment.
