Boy Machines Unveils Complete Product Portfolio at Orlando Expo

Boy Machines showcased a full spectrum of its injection‑molding technology, from the compact Boy XXS micromolder to the powerful Boy 100 E. The lineup highlighted advanced control systems, energy‑efficient designs, and the company’s new robotic solutions.

The Boy XXS, introduced at K 2016, is a 7‑ton all‑electric tabletop unit capable of 9.3 g shot size. It features Boy’s signature cantilevered, two‑platen clamp with dual diagonal tiebars, a Procan Alpha controller, and adjustable off‑center gating up to 25 mm. Integrated sprue and part pickers sit beneath the safety gate for streamlined operation.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Boy 100 E (110‑ton capacity) produced LSR protective sleeves in a 128‑cavity mold from Elmet in just 14 seconds, demonstrating high‑speed, high‑volume performance for cable‑end applications.

Boy also demonstrated its retrofit‑able secondary injection units, converting standard presses into multi‑component systems. A Boy 60 E, equipped with a Boy 2C S auxiliary unit, overmolded a wine‑bottle spout using NAS styrene‑acrylic and TPE, showcasing the energy‑saving EconPlast insulated‑barrel technology.

Additional presses on display included a Boy 25 E producing clear magnifying lenses, a Boy 35 E molding medical components, and a Boy 35 EVV vertical‑vertical press designed for insert molding.

Central to the showcase was the new Procan Alpha 4 controller, first launched at K 2016. It integrates an OPC‑UA server— the emerging standard for Industry 4.0 connectivity— and offers a doubled temperature‑control precision, halved tolerances, and ten‑fold improvement in position‑sensor accuracy. The processor’s response time is now 125 µs versus 1 ms in the previous model, with cycle‑time deviation under 10 ms. Hydraulic‑pressure‑dependent switchover to holding pressure now includes stroke monitoring, further enhancing consistency.

For the first time in the U.S., Boy introduced its LR 5 top‑entry servo robot, a cost‑effective solution compatible with Boy 35 E to 100 E presses. Integrated into the Procan Alpha control, the robot’s modular design allows selectable X‑Y‑Z axis lengths, a rotating and swiveling gripper, and a safety enclosure. With a 5 kg (11 lb) payload, the LR 5 is ideal for pick‑and‑place or assembly tasks. A three‑axis pneumatic picker, programmable via Procan Alpha, was also on display.
