Wittmann Battenfeld’s Digital Twin Lets Operators Replay Robot Movements in Slow‑Motion
Digital Twin Technology from Wittmann Battenfeld
Wittmann Battenfeld, a global leader in injection‑molding machines and automation, has upgraded all robots equipped with its R9 control system to include a real‑time video assistant powered by a digital twin.
The twin is an electronic replica that mirrors the physical robot’s configuration, including all optional equipment. Displayed on the TeachBox, it can replay any previously executed sequence at any speed—from full speed to slow‑motion—down to 4‑millisecond resolution.
Once the robot enters automatic mode, the twin records every axis movement, entry and exit points, counter values and all other parameters that influence the robot’s behavior. The data archive covers the last 100 seconds, and each teach command is saved for later review.
Use Case: Diagnosing Unexpected Stand‑Ups
If a robot stops unexpectedly, the recording halts, but the preceding 100 seconds remain accessible. Operators can use the TeachBox’s time controller to jump to any point in that window, shifting left or right to scrutinize subtle status changes.
Because the twin is moved on the TeachBox while the physical robot continues to operate, the operator can investigate without interrupting production. This capability helps pinpoint root causes of defects and prevent recurrence.
With the digital twin, Wittmann Battenfeld delivers a robust, data‑driven tool that enhances reliability, reduces downtime, and boosts operator confidence.
Wittmann Battenfeld’s R9 control for robots features a digital twin that allows molders to “replay” robot movements.
