Wittmann Battenfeld Launches the WX153: Advanced Robot Line for High‑Force Injection Molding Automation

Wittmann Battenfeld, a global leader in injection‑molding automation, has unveiled the WX153 robot line—designed for machines with clamp forces between 500 and 1,300 tons. The new series replaces the long‑standing W8 pro line that first hit the market in 2013.

The WX153 offers exceptional flexibility: a vertical Z‑axis stroke of up to 2,600 mm (102 in) and a horizontal X‑axis stroke reaching 18,000 mm (709 in). For higher‑capacity applications, two robots can be configured in tandem, each moving independently with a shared stroke of at least 4,000 mm (157 in).

Wittmann Battenfeld says its new WX153 robot is a complete redesign of its W8 pro series, launched in 2013.

The tandem robot architecture is paired with a joint R9 TeachBox that can orchestrate up to 12 axes simultaneously. Operators can mix and match axes from individual robots or from a tandem pair to craft bespoke movement profiles that run in perfect synchrony.

A key innovation is the integrated compact controller housing, which streamlines the robot’s footprint on the carrier. The demolding X‑axis offers strokes of 1,200 mm (47 in) or 1,400 mm (55 in). In its standard build, the robot supports a 30‑kg (66‑lb) payload—configurable to suit specific production needs.

Equipped with Wittmann’s R9 control system, the WX153 features a digital twin that enables virtual test runs and SmartRemoval technology to cut mold‑opening times, boosting throughput and reducing downtime.
