OnRobot Updates Eyes Vision System with One-Shot Multi‑Object Detection and Landmark Calibration

OnRobot, headquartered in Odense, Denmark with a U.S. office in Irving, Texas, has rolled out a new software version for its Eyes vision system. The update brings a suite of features that enable robots to identify and manipulate objects faster and with greater precision.

The key highlight is a one‑shot multi‑object detection capability that eliminates the need for traditional teaching steps. Operators simply feed the system with color and size parameters, and the camera can identify and locate several parts from a single image. This streamlines inspections—such as checking molded parts for short shots or flash—and allows operators to conduct manual inspections by placing a part in view of the camera.

Eyes now supports 2.5‑D vision, giving the robot access to height (Z‑axis) data in addition to the X‑Y plane. The system can estimate an object’s pitch and yaw, enabling more accurate pick‑and‑place operations on irregularly shaped or rotated items.

Another new feature is an automated landmark calibration tool that simplifies the programming of mobile robots. By defining custom landmarks, a robot can navigate between stations, detect the arrival of a loaded cart, and seamlessly transition to pick‑and‑place routines—all without manual intervention.

The update also allows users to request specific workpiece types and set gripper clearance parameters, reducing complexity and boosting cycle times for mobile robot deployments.

OnRobot notes that the enhancements were built on customer feedback and aim to give the Eyes system the versatility to sort, inspect, and pick‑place unstructured objects using color and contour detection.
