Allied Reliability Strengthens Leadership with Veteran Predictive Maintenance Expert Jack Nicholas

Allied Reliability has reinforced its position in the predictive maintenance sector by adding seasoned reliability specialist Jack Nicholas to its leadership team.

“Jack holds tremendous respect within the maintenance and reliability community,” says Allied partner John Schultz. “His accomplishments are well‑known, and he is a true icon in our industry. We are absolutely delighted to have him on our team.”

The announcement is the culmination of a long‑term relationship between the two leaders. “I have been observing Allied for many years,” Nicholas said. “I’ve been impressed by their contributions to the maintenance and reliability industry. Through organizations like SMRP, I’ve become quite familiar with their people and business approach. It became obvious that we share a common mindset, and that led to this agreement.”

With a highly competitive, global marketplace, companies are seeking ways to improve efficiency. Predictive maintenance is key to that goal, according to Nicholas. “More and more firms will adopt predictive maintenance as the cornerstone of their maintenance programs,” he explained. “It’s the last frontier for extracting savings and increasing profits, especially for manufacturers. What we see now is just the tip of the iceberg.”

Predictive maintenance is expected to evolve dramatically in the near future. “Much of the data collection will become wireless,” Nicholas added. “Instead of technicians going out to gather data, the data will come to them. That’s far more efficient and effective.” This shift will raise demand for highly specialized workers with skill sets beyond the average maintenance technician.

“I see predictive maintenance technicians—what we now call knowledge workers—as the future of the field,” Nicholas said. “They possess the analytical tools that deliver far higher productivity than the intuitive methods of the past.”

Nicholas brings over 40 years of experience in predictive maintenance and reliability, including 30 years as a naval officer and civilian engineer, founder and senior vice president of PdMA Corporation, and CEO of the successful training, publishing, and consulting business Maintenance Quality Systems (MQS), LLC. He is the author or co‑author of several key texts, including Motor Electrical Predictive Maintenance and Testing, Predictive Maintenance Management, and Advancing Reliability & Maintenance, and has contributed to many other major publications in the field.

In his new role at Allied, Nicholas will serve as a senior technical advisor, coaching and mentoring the team. He will provide training, consulting, and mentorship on Procedure‑Based Maintenance (PBM) and Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM) scorecarding.
