Perry Nuclear Plant Enters Shutdown for Motor Replacement and Maintenance
FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) announced on July 2 that work has commenced at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in North Perry, Ohio, to replace a 20‑ton motor in the Reactor Recirculation System.
The motor, one of two that regulate water flow to the reactor vessel, was removed last week, temporarily lowering reactor power to roughly 55 %. In preparation for the replacement, operators shut the plant down on June 29 and will keep it offline until the new motor is installed. A spare unit is already in place.
During the outage, routine preventive maintenance and comprehensive system inspections will be carried out to maintain the plant’s safety and reliability.
Perry is owned by Akron‑based FirstEnergy Corporation and operated by its subsidiary, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company.
