ARC Report Spotlights Rockwell Automation’s InSite Managed Services for Cost‑Saving, High‑Uptime Operations
In February 2010, ARC Advisory Group released a research report that spotlights Rockwell Automation’s InSite Managed Services as a strategic approach to outsourced maintenance and operations.
The report, “Rockwell Automation InSite Managed Services Offers Seamless Extension to End User’s Staff,” was authored by research director Craig Resnick and details how the InSite suite helps manufacturers cut costs, enhance performance, and boost system uptime.
“The shift to a services‑intensive automation marketplace has been driven by workforce reductions and the growing costs of maintaining and optimizing automation systems,” Resnick explains. “The next evolution is to make an automation supplier’s service team a seamless extension of the end‑user’s staff, a role fulfilled by Rockwell’s InSite Managed Services.”
Resnick argues that end‑users often lack the time or resources to juggle multiple automation and enterprise vendors on a project. “Automation suppliers bring deep product expertise and, increasingly, knowledge of competitive solutions—particularly in migration projects,” he notes.
Rockwell’s InSite Services let manufacturers choose from five core managed‑service capabilities to build a life‑cycle strategy that fits their needs and drives cost savings:
- Surveillance – Remote, near real‑time system monitoring
- Diagnostics – System analysis, troubleshooting and issue resolution
- Knowledge Management – Ongoing management of knowledge cases and documents
- Administration – Life‑cycle application and system management
- Optimization – System performance improvement and development services
“This report demonstrates how Rockwell Automation helps customers reduce costs through a variety of managed services,” says Steve Carlson, product manager for InSite Services. “As manufacturers operate with leaner internal teams and tighter budgets, InSite Managed Services provide a path to maintain, or even improve, the service levels required to keep sites running smoothly.”
Headquartered in Milwaukee, Rockwell Automation employs approximately 19,000 people and serves customers in more than 80 countries.
