Essential Safety Protocols for Precision CNC Machining

We are continuing our series on machine shop safety protocols.  Our previous article discussed wearing proper clothing and protection when equipment such as laser cutting, laser engraving and CNC milling machines are in operation and the importance of proper training.  Today, we will look at more precision CNC machining safety protocols.

Machine Shop Cleanliness

Machine shop cleanliness is a must.  After using any equipment (i.e., CNC milling machines, laser cutting machine, etc.) our machinists and staff are required to conduct a thorough cleaning of the area. This includes, but is not limited to, sweeping metal, wood chips, etc. off the floor, properly storing tools, parts, and any other loose items, wiping down the equipment, etc.  Not only does this promote physical safety, but a clean machine shop also improves overall morale.

Equipment Maintenance

All of our equipment – including CNC milling, CNC turning, laser cutting, laser engraving machines, etc. – undergoes regular maintenance to ensure it is always in prime working condition.  Not only is this for the safety of our machinists and staff, but equipment that operates at optimal levels produces a better end product.
