Swissbit Launches U‑50n Nano USB 3.1 Flash Drive – Rugged, High‑Performance Storage for Industrial & IoT

Swissbit has unveiled the U‑50n Nano, a compact USB 3.1 flash drive that marries industrial durability with high‑speed data handling. Designed for IoT and industrial use cases that demand more than simple data storage, it comes in 8, 16, 32 and 64 GB variants.

The U‑50n’s operating temperature spans –40 °C to 85 °C, and its metal housing delivers mechanical robustness. A 30 µm gold connector ensures reliable performance after thousands of insertions, while the molded Chip‑On‑Board (COB) package protects against shock and vibration. All units are fabricated and rigorously tested at Swissbit’s Berlin facility, underscoring the company’s advanced packaging expertise.

At the firmware level, the drive employs page‑based logic that accelerates random writes and cuts write amplification. Sequential throughput reaches 135 MB/s read and 65 MB/s write, whereas random I/O peaks at 2 500 IOPS write and 700 IOPS read—well beyond the capabilities of typical consumer USB 3.1 products. These metrics make the U‑50n especially suited for data‑logging scenarios that generate high random‑write traffic.

Unlike consumer‑grade drives that prioritize sequential speed, the U‑50n is engineered for industrial resilience. Swissbit’s Data Care Management continuously monitors drive health, refreshes deteriorating blocks, and safeguards data integrity during sudden power loss. Built on 15 nm MLC NAND, the Nano features a frozen BOM that guarantees long‑term reliability.

For applications demanding even higher throughput and endurance, the U‑56n pSLC variant offers nearly double performance and a seven‑fold increase in endurance compared to most market‑available SLC flash.

Both the U‑50n and U‑56n are supported by Swissbit’s Lifetime Monitor, which presents detailed device status—including flash utilization and Write Amplification Factor (WAF)—in real time.

When data security is paramount, the PU‑50n DP adds a layer of protection. This variant integrates hardware encryption and robust access controls that surpass software solutions found in consumer devices. A retry counter locks the drive after a set number of failed password attempts, and the device is fully GDPR‑compliant, making it suitable as a portable license or configuration token for industrial automation.
