Rutronik Launches Ultra‑Low‑Power BMI270 IMU: Bosch‑Powered, 30µA Gesture & Activity Sensor for Wearables

The BMI270, the latest addition to Bosch Sensortec’s BMI260 family, delivers exceptional performance while consuming a mere 30µA in ultra‑low‑power mode. This low current draw keeps device batteries healthy and extends charging intervals, a critical advantage for wearable and hearable products.

With integrated gesture, context and activity recognition—alongside a plug‑and‑play step counter—the BMI270 offloads these tasks from the main processor, dramatically improving overall system power efficiency. The IMU’s advanced algorithms run independently, enabling instant responses to user motions such as flicks, pivots and arm swings.

Encased in a compact 2.5 × 3.0 × 0.8 mm package, the BMI270 is pin‑to‑pin compatible with the BMI160 and BMI260, making it a drop‑in upgrade for designers. Its new Bosch MEMS process technology sharpens accelerometer performance, reducing development time and manufacturing costs.

Two application‑specific variants simplify integration:

Ideal for smart clothing, footwear, glasses, wrist and ankle bands, and hearables, the BMI270 empowers OEMs to deliver battery‑friendly, gesture‑enabled experiences with minimal design effort.
