ST Introduces 8‑Pin STM32G0 MCUs: 32‑Bit Performance for Compact Projects

STMicroelectronics has launched a new family of 8‑pin STM32G0 microcontrollers that combine 32‑bit Cortex‑M0+ processing power with a compact, cost‑effective footprint, making them ideal for simple embedded designs.

Each device runs a 64 MHz Arm Cortex‑M0+ core, delivering 59 DMIPS, and features up to 8 KByte of RAM and 32 KByte of on‑chip Flash. High‑performance peripherals include a 2.5 Msps ADC, a high‑resolution timer, and a high‑speed SPI interface. Flexible pin‑muxing allows designers to add functionality without increasing board real estate or BOM costs. The internal oscillator offers ±1 % accuracy across temperature and voltage ranges, eliminating the need for an external crystal in most applications.

Built on the STM32 family’s proven low‑power architecture, the 8‑pin G0 MCUs are ready for energy‑constrained scenarios such as battery‑powered devices, eco‑design compliance, and appliance energy‑rating requirements.

Scalability is a key benefit: the broader STM32G0 line offers up to 100 package pins, 512 KByte of Flash, advanced analog peripherals, and cyber‑protection features. This future‑proofing allows projects to grow without a costly redesign.

Physical details: the MCUs are available in a 6 mm × 4.9 mm SO8N package. Pricing starts at $0.31 per unit for 1,000‑piece orders of the STM32G030J6 Value Line. A ready‑to‑use 8‑pin Discovery kit, the STM32G0316‑DISCO, simplifies evaluation and rapid prototyping.

Additional 8‑pin options include the STM32G031J6, STM32G031J4, and STM32G041J6 Access Line devices, which add hardware AES acceleration, a securable memory area for secure boot or firmware updates, extra timers, and a 96‑bit unique device ID.
