IoT World 2019 Preview: 9 Tracks, 4 Industrial Sessions, Keynotes from CEOs, 5G Insights & Developer Focus

The Internet of Things World conference unites industry leaders and technologists to accelerate IoT project implementation and ROI. The event explores IoT from both vertical industry perspectives and horizontal technology lenses. In this video, we speak with Zach Butler, portfolio manager for the IoT World series, about what attendees can expect in Santa Clara, May 13‑16.

Sue Troy: Hi, I’m Sue Troy, senior content director for IoTWorldToday.com, the companion site for the Internet of Things World event series. I’m joined by Zach Butler, who runs the event. Welcome, Zach.

Zach Butler: Hi Sue. Thanks for having me.

Troy: The flagship IoT World 2019 conference is coming up in Santa Clara on May 13‑16. Could you give us a preview of what’s on the agenda?

Butler: This year we’re offering nine distinct tracks each day—spanning industrial, consumer, and horizontal topics like connectivity, edge computing, security, and AI. We’re also adding a dedicated Developers Conference for those designing and building the next generation of IoT products.

We’re expanding our industrial focus to four dedicated tracks covering manufacturing, energy, utilities, supply chain logistics, smart buildings, and smart city infrastructure. The industry verticals that are driving IoT innovation will now have even deeper content.

Troy: Who will be speaking at the keynote sessions?

Butler: Keynotes are becoming the marquee attraction. We’ll hear from CEOs of Avis Budget Group, Siemens, LoRa Alliance, and Itron; CIOs from Dell Technologies, Daimler Trucks North America, and the City of San Jose; CTOs of Proctor & Gamble, CVS Health, the City of Las Vegas, Software AG; and innovation leaders from Kimberly‑Clark, the City of Columbus, and Ford Motor. Themes will include rapid, secure integration, digital twins, IoT‑AI convergence, IT‑OT alignment, and 5G’s role in future connectivity standards.

Troy: What does it mean to be an IoT developer?

Butler: IoT development now demands a blend of hardware, software, front‑end, and back‑end skills. Developers collaborate across disciplines to create commercially viable solutions, breaking down traditional silos. Our Developers Conference is the hub for those crafting the components that power tomorrow’s IoT ecosystems.

IoT World is where industry and innovation intersect. Book your pass now—save $350, receive a free expo pass, and explore the IoT security speakers.

We’re also enhancing vertical networking. Six dedicated sessions per day will connect professionals in each vertical—industrial or consumer—so they can meet peers, share lessons, and engage directly with solution suppliers. We’ll bring attendees out of the conference rooms and into the exhibition to maximize learning and networking efficiency.

Troy: Are there vertical‑specific parties?

Butler: Yes, each vertical will have networking sessions on the terraces, making it easy to connect with like‑minded attendees.

Troy: Thanks for the insight, Zach. I look forward to seeing you in Santa Clara on May 13‑16.
