Tata Opens Its Worker‑Safety Wearable to Other Industrial Firms
In a bid to expand its hardware portfolio, Tata Group is now offering its own worker‑safety wearable—originally rolled out for its factory teams—to other industrial companies across India.
The wearable, launched last year, monitors heart rate, body temperature, movement, fall detection and ambient gas levels, helping to flag hazardous conditions before they become incidents. It also features a simple watch interface, which has proved popular among lower‑wage workers, and is built to withstand the rigors of a production line.
Initial concerns about employee privacy were addressed through transparent data policies, and the device has since seen widespread adoption in Tata’s own facilities.

A New Revenue Stream
Leveraging its entrenched brand in India, Tata aims to sell the wearables to smaller factories, as well as to mining and freight operators—industries where safety monitoring is critical. “We are targeting a potential $1 billion in revenue with a profit of $100 million,” said Tata Group technology chief Gopichand Katragadda in an interview with the Economic Times. “Our go‑to‑market partner is Tata Communications, and we are exploring a monthly subscription model rather than a one‑time fee.”
As industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions become more common, companies are increasingly looking to technology that can reduce accidents and boost productivity. Tata’s move positions it at the forefront of this growing market.
