Hitachi Launches Vantara to Strengthen Its Social Innovation Leadership

Hitachi Vantara merges the capabilities of Hitachi Data Systems, Hitachi Insight Group, and Pentaho into a single, integrated business. It aims to harness Hitachi’s social‑innovation expertise across both operational technologies (OT) and information technologies (IT). The Insight Group, a 16‑month‑old IoT‑focused unit, exemplifies Hitachi’s commitment to dissolving organizational silos in the rapidly evolving technology space.
Over a century in the making
“Hitachi Vantara represents a pivotal shift as we further realize our unified corporate vision of Social Innovation,” declared Hitachi, Ltd. President and CEO Toshiaki Higashihara. “For years, we have empowered customers to unlock the potential of their data for meaningful business outcomes. As digital tools and processes reshape the world, we are consolidating our leading digital‑solutions entities into a single Hitachi subsidiary that delivers exponential impact for clients and society alike. Hitachi Vantara underscores our dedication to collaborative creation with customers and partners, and to being a genuine innovation partner in the IoT era.”
With a legacy spanning more than a century in operational technologies for sectors such as finance, government, manufacturing, energy, and transportation, Hitachi has delivered solutions that enhance cities, industrial operations, and businesses worldwide. For over 50 years, it has also been a pioneer in information technology, offering applications, analytics, content, cloud, and infrastructure solutions that have reshaped enterprise operations.
Brian Householder, President and COO of Vantara, noted, “The first reaction is usually ‘wow,’ followed by ‘I didn’t realize you had that capability.’” By blending Hitachi’s extensive OT expertise with its proven IT product innovations, the new subsidiary offers customers a powerful, collaborative data partner that was previously unattainable in a single organization.
Hitting the emerging IoT market
Hitachi Vantara targets the nascent IoT market, where no dominant player yet exists. The subsidiary will continue to deliver infrastructure and analytics solutions, with a particular focus on its established data‑center portfolio.
It will also spearhead the development of strategic software and services, such as Hitachi Smart Data Center solutions and Lumada, Hitachi’s IoT platform, which is now available as a standalone commercial offering.
Alongside the announcement, Lumada 2.0 was unveiled. The release features comprehensive upgrades, including advanced artificial intelligence, machine‑learning, and analytics capabilities. Its modular, portable architecture allows deployment on‑premises or in the cloud, supporting industrial IoT use cases at both the edge and the core.
