IXON: Official Universal Robots UR+ Partner – Secure Remote Access & Industrial IoT Solutions

IXON is proud to be a certified Universal Robots UR+ Partner, offering industry‑leading solutions for secure remote management and industrial IoT integration.

Robots are transforming factories worldwide, and Universal Robots’ flexible, teach‑pendant‑programmable cobots are at the forefront of this shift. While these robots deliver powerful automation, managing them on the shop floor demands robust security, real‑time monitoring, and effortless configuration updates. That’s where IXON steps in.

Rule #1: Never Connect Your Robot Directly to Your Network

Although most robots feature an Ethernet port, a direct network connection exposes them to significant security risks. Robots lack enterprise‑grade OS security patches, leaving vulnerabilities unpatched. A compromised network user could start or stop the robot, overwrite programs, or gain SSH access to the controller—potentially rendering the robot unusable.

IXON’s IXrouter solves this by acting as a dedicated gateway. Equipped with an advanced firewall, it provides five Ethernet ports—one WAN for internet access and four LAN ports to connect one or multiple robots. The firewall isolates the robot network from the corporate LAN, blocking malicious traffic before it reaches the robot.

Cloud‑Enabled Connectivity: Unlock Full IoT Potential

The IXON platform seamlessly integrates the IXrouter with the IXON Cloud, establishing a secure, encrypted connection for remote control and monitoring. Industrial remote access via VPN or VNC allows engineers to connect to the teach pendant from any location.

To enable VNC on Universal Robots—devices that do not ship with a built‑in server—IXON developed the IXON Connector URcap. This plug‑in installs a VNC server on the robot, permitting real‑time screen sharing and control directly from the IXON Cloud’s web interface or mobile app—no coding required.

Beyond remote control, the IXON Cloud offers extensive IoT capabilities: Cloud Logging captures joint status, temperature, and other telemetry; Cloud Notify sends real‑time alerts for events like status changes or overheating; and data reports provide actionable insights to preempt downtime.
