Using 3D Scanning Lidar Data for Better Building Designs

3D scanning using LiDAR technology is popular due to its fast data acquisition and the far ranges it can scan, which allow companies to create accurate and detailed 3D models of a space. But what are some of the ways to use the scan data for engineering purposes?

This 30-minute webinar will discuss how to convert a 3D scan of a room into a CAD model suitable for different aspects of design and engineering. It will explore reverse engineering a 3D scan for reference features, inserting items to check placements, and running simulations on the datasets. An audience Q&A session will follow the technical presentation.

Matthew Fisher is an application engineer who specializes in all things 3D scanning. He began his career as a SOLIDWORKS user, and with extensive experience in 3D printing, Matthew now uses a variety of 3D scanners to inspect, reverse engineer, and create renders of products. With an interest in digital preservation, he also uses 3D scanning in his hobby, capturing unique finds around the city and parks. Matthew serves as Hawk Ridge Systems’ Technical Marketing Engineer.
