CoventorMP 1.3 Enhances MEMS Design Automation with Advanced Geometry Modeling
For engineers crafting micro‑electromechanical systems (MEMS) such as motion sensors, microphones, timing devices and energy harvesters, Coventor—an affiliate of Lam Research—has unveiled the next generation of its MEMS design automation platform. CoventorMP 1.3 expands the spectrum of geometries that can be modeled with precision, introduces sophisticated device construction tools, and delivers faster, more reliable simulation results.
The CoventorMP suite offers a single, unified workspace that spans from fully parametric design entry to production‑ready functional models. The core MEMS+ component lets users assemble advanced finite‑element meshes or MEMS‑specific building blocks into complete devices. Outputs integrate seamlessly into MathWorks Simulink and Cadence circuit environments, providing simulation performance up to 100× faster than conventional finite‑element solvers.
With this release, designers can rapidly iterate on highly complex MEMS devices, boosting performance and reliability across consumer, automotive, aerospace, industrial, and IoT markets. Early evaluation of device behavior before fabrication shortens time‑to‑market and reduces costly redesign cycles.

Sam Zhang, Director of MEMS Design and Analog Devices’ ADI Fellow, noted, “The latest CoventorMP release delivers a breakthrough in MEMS design capabilities. GDS import and arbitrary‑geometry meshing in MEMS+ let us evaluate performance at both device and system levels quickly and accurately. We can iterate design changes effortlessly to meet our performance goals, and ADI is eager to continue our partnership with Coventor.”
The new version, available immediately, bundles several key enhancements:
Enhanced Device Construction and Modeling
Powerful automatic meshing is now built into the MEMS+ plate component. Designers can accurately simulate highly perforated plate structures, supporting up to 3 million degrees of freedom and automatic mesh‑algorithm selection. Coupled with Coventor’s design methodology, users can generate auto‑meshed designs straight from layout.
Simulation and Results Performance Improvements
CoventorMP 1.3 introduces tighter control over result file sizes, trimming simulation time and disk usage. New MEMS+ output options available during MATLAB simulations can cut runtimes dramatically. The simulator also yields more precise numerical results.
Additional Self‑Help Features
Support now includes MEMSCAP PolyMUMPS and SOIMUMPS foundry processes in MEMS+. An expanded library of device examples and an enhanced online help system further empower users.
CoventorMP 1.3 will be installed across all major customers worldwide, spanning the U.S., Europe, Asia, and beyond.
