Discover Gustav Gerster GmbH & Co. KG at CAMX 2021 – Innovative Technical Textiles for Light-Weight Applications
Gustav Gerster GmbH & Co. KG (Biberach an der Riß, Germany) manufactures technical textiles for the composites market, among others, using processes such as weaving, knitting or braiding for carbon, glass or aramid fiber reinforcement, as well as basalt, ceramic and natural fibers. One of the company’s focuses is on component-adapted reinforcement textiles in the field of lightweight construction for the automotive, wind power and sports articles industries.
According to the company, Gerster TechTex corner reinforcements ensure the complete filling of cavities in fiber composite components. Through the use of fiber material at critical transitions, corner reinforcements can help to avoid resin buildup and minimize stresses in the component. Consisting of a knitted cover and variable core material made of carbon or glass fibers, the corner reinforcements work with carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) or glass fiber-reinforced plastic (GFRP) components in round form or as a profile. This product is often used as a filler material in the support structures of rotor blades or as a reinforcement material in commercial vehicles or CFRP rims for automobiles.
In addition, Gerster displays resin distribution tape, a textile flow aid for optimizing the infusion process in the production of fiber composite components. It is used on the input side of the component to introduce resin and on the output side to evacuate air and excess resin. The flow channel reportedly ensures an even flow of resin and leaves minimal marks on the component. The advantage of the aid is the simple and quick attachment to the component, according to the company. The product is suitable for the production of both large- and small-area fiber composite components in areas such as boat building and wind power. In addition, it can also be used as a branch of main lines, especially for large components.
