Trelleborg Introduces Soteria FRV: Ultra-Lightweight, Fire-Resistant Carbon Fiber

Trelleborg’s (Trelleborg, Sweden) applied technologies operation unveiled, Soteria FRV, a new ultra-lightweight, fire-resistant carbon fiber material developed via the company’s proprietary resin system, at the inaugural International Composites Summit in London from Sept. 8-9, 2021. Soteria FRV is the second material in Trelleborg’s protection materials range.

Weighing only 1.2 kg/m2, Soteria FRV is ultra-lightweight and extremely flexible, says the company. The material is capable of shaping to fit areas of any size, or for draping or wrapping around difficult profiles. When combined with Soteria FR1500 panels, it creates a lightweight, protective solution that is useful for electric vehicle (EV) battery boxes and enclosures, or as a stand-alone option for increased fire risk applications.

Trelleborg’s Soteria FRV material is flame resistant to +1100ºC for up to 90 minutes, with no burn through or expansion during a fire. Soteria FRV requires no ongoing maintenance once in-situ, and is easy to transport and install, making it suitable for both new and upgraded applications.
