EN 12166 CuSn4 R650 – High-Performance Tin‑Copper Alloy for Precision Applications

CuSn4, mat. No. CW450K, is comparable to the DIN-make CuSn4, mat. No. 2.1016, acc. to DIN 17662 : 1983-12. The material is specified by a favorable combination of very good cold formability with strength and hardness. It is corrosion resistant, good soft and hard solderable and shows still good electrical conductivity. Properties of the CuSn-alloy are predominantly determined by the tin-content. The alloy is unhardenable, only work hardening is feasible. Tensile strength, yield point and hardness increase according to the rising cold forming grade, elongation after fracture decreases. Electrical and thermal conductivity are lower than for pure copper. Very high resistance to corrosion, particularly to atmospheric influences, seawater, sulfite liquor, carbonated and salted mine water. The alloys are stress corrosion-proof. Processing properties: warm forming: limited cold forming: very good machinability: moderately to hardly hard soldering: very good soft soldering: very good gas welding: medium arc welding: medium TIG-welding: good MIG_welding: good resistance welding: good electron beam welding: good sticking: suitable burnishing: good mechanical burnishing: good electrolytical/chemical burnishing: good galvanizing: very good suitability for dip tinning: very good Appliction: CuSn4 is predominantly used in the form of strips for all types of springs with mean requirements, such as connectors, electrographic springs for contacts and earthing contacts, clamp-connenctions for radio, TV and video, receptacles for electronical assemblies, for pushbutton shifting springs and locking clamps, spring rings as well as for textile machine components. For the electrolytically tinned strip the coatings (Sn bright, Sn matt, Sn fuzed, SnPb) are listed by the application (better solderability, better corrosion resistance, reduction of the electrical contact resistance, better appearance) in the DIN EN 14436 : 2004-11 (Table 5)
