Engineering Highlight: Samrat's Reinforced Quadcopter Wins 'Part of the Week'

Last Friday at MarkForged’s Part of the Week event, engineer Samrat unveiled a custom quadcopter that earned the weekly contest trophy.

Samrat built his design on the popular Hovership MHQ2 from Thingiverse. He increased the main plate thickness by 2 mm for added stiffness and raised the landing-gear height to house a 4S Li-Po battery at the base. An antenna stand was also added for improved signal reliability.

To survive New England’s rugged terrain and occasional drops, the majority of the body was reinforced with carbon-fiber, while the arms were strengthened with fiberglass.

During the weekend, Samrat conducted a test flight—our first live footage of one of these aircraft in action.
