Hermle HS Flex: Heavy‑Duty Work‑Handling System Capable of Storing Nine Pallets

Designed for the Performance-Line and High-Performance-Line of five-axis machining centers, Hermle’s HS Flex Heavy work handling system can move workpieces ranging to 1,200 kg (including pallet) between setup station, storage modules and work area. The system enables precise crane loading of pallets ranging to 800 × 630 mm. To minimize the potential for operator error, workpieces are measured prior to loading to ensure they do not exceed the maximum height of 700 mm.

The two double-leaf doors have a dual function. During a pallet change procedure, they prevent access by the operator; and during machining, they provide access to the working view position and working area while also preventing access to the handling unit.

One storage module is installed as standard with a second module available as an option. The modules are structured as a rack, enabling customization of the arrangement of pallets and workpieces. Up to three rack bottoms with a total of up to nine pallet storage pockets can be ordered per module. A storage generator tests the workpieces against permitted weights and dimensions to avoid violating different machines’ weight and size restrictions

The HS Flex Heavy, the pallet changer and the RS 05-2 robot system are controlled using the Hermle Automation Control System (HACS). The HACS touch panel displays orders and required operator actions. HACS can be combined with the Hermle Information Monitoring System (HIMS), which displays machine status in real time and can be shown on any tablet, desktop or smartphone.
