Revolutionizing Coffee: Beck Automation Launches PLA-Based Single-Serve Capsules with IML Technology
Beck Automation of Switzerland has debuted an In‑Line Molding (IML) system for single‑serve coffee capsules across the Americas, marking a first for the region.
Both the capsules and their labels—manufactured by Verstraete in Belgium—are crafted from polylactic acid (PLA), a renewable biopolymer that supports sustainable packaging.
The 4‑cavity mold is driven by a Netstal Elion 1200 all‑electric press, achieving cycle times of just 6–7 seconds per batch. This rapid throughput, combined with precise molding, delivers consistent capsule quality.
A dedicated quality‑control cell incorporates a vision inspection system from IMDvista, enabling real‑time verification of capsule shape, fill level, and label placement.
By integrating sustainable materials, high‑speed automation, and advanced quality assurance, Beck Automation delivers a fully traceable, eco‑friendly single‑serve coffee solution that meets the growing demand for responsible consumption.
