Muller’s M-Line: Flexible Automation for Injection‑Molded Packaging

Muller Technology Colorado, formerly CBW Automation, has unveiled its M‑Line integrated robot and automation system, delivering unprecedented flexibility for injection‑molded packaging.

The M‑Line, co‑designed with Muller Technology Conthey in Switzerland, supports molds ranging from single‑cavity to 48‑cavity configurations, accommodating varied cavitation and pitch specifications. Unlike older systems locked to specific mold geometries, the M‑Line adapts swiftly to market shifts and fluctuating production volumes.

Three distinct models cater to different machine sizes, aligned with robot arm reach: small (300‑500 tons), medium (600‑850 tons), and large (850‑1000 tons). The system features cost‑effective, quick‑change end‑of‑arm tooling (EOAT) and is built on a single, self‑contained frame that eliminates assembly overhead. Powered by servo‑motors rather than pneumatics, the M‑Line cuts energy use, extends component lifespan—often ten times that of pneumatic drives—and allows up to an hour of conveyor accumulation, potentially reducing packer staffing.

Finite‑element analysis (FEA) was employed during design to suppress arm and beam vibration. A Wi‑Fi‑enabled tablet streamlines setup and troubleshooting. Muller backs the M‑Line with a two‑year warranty, and 95 % of replacement parts are stocked for same‑day delivery.

Manufactured in both Switzerland and Colorado, the M‑Line has already secured seven North American deployments. Current users include specialty closures, thin‑wall containers, and lids.

Muller’s new M‑Line automation system for injection‑molded packaging can adapt to different tools and different cavitations.
