Wittmann Battenfeld Launches 48/48T Robot, Supporting 1200‑Ton Injection Molding Machines

Since its 2018 debut, Wittmann Battenfeld’s Primus robot line has grown from supporting 400‑ton clamping force to 900‑tons, and now the new 48/48T expands that capability to 1,200‑tons. Designed for modern injection molding, the 20‑kg (44‑lb) payload robot is engineered to work with machines that exert up to 1,200 tons of clamping force, a significant increase from the 900‑tons showcased at K 2019.

The 48/48T’s 9‑m (30‑ft) horizontal reach lets it service multiple pallet bays beside the molding unit, while its demolding axis can travel up to 1,200 mm (47 in). The vertical range spans from 1,400 mm (55 in) to 2,000 mm (79 in), and customers can choose between the single‑axis Primus 48 or the telescopic Primus 48T for the 1,400‑to‑1,600‑mm (55‑to‑63‑in) zone.

Key features include a continuous drilling pattern that boosts flexibility, double‑linear guiding on each axis, and a fully redesigned vertical tube that offers rigidity comparable to the WX line. The tube hides vacuum, compressed‑air, and gripper feedback couplers inside, keeping hoses concealed for a cleaner installation.

Wittmann Battenfeld’s Managing Director Michael Wittmann highlighted the robot’s integration with the R8 TeachBox and R8 Primus software, as well as support for the company’s patented Smart Removal function. These tools provide intuitive programming and real‑time monitoring, reinforcing the system’s reliability and ease of use.

In a recent virtual press event, the 48/48T was presented as a versatile solution for presses up to 1,200 tons, surpassing the earlier 400‑ton recommendation for the 26/26T models.

The Wittmann Battenfeld 48/48T robot can support injection molding machines with up to 1,200 tons of clamping force.
