Spanner Types Explained: Choosing the Right Tool for Every Job

Types of spanners
The common types of spanners are open-end or single-end spanners, double-end spanners, ring spanners, socket spanners, box spanners, combination spanners, hook spanners, adjustable spanners, and T socket spanners, Magneto spanners, Allen key, and pin face adjustable spanner.
Open-end or single-end spanner
Only one end of these kinds of spanners is open, and the nut or bolt head is held to loosen or tighten it. A single-end spanner is another name for it. The gap between their jaws determines their size. As a result, the spanner is chosen based on the distance between the opposing surfaces of the nut or bolt.
Double-ended spanner
Open ends are constructed on both ends of these spanners to hold nuts or bolt heads in place. These two ends are angled from the in-between body at 15 to 30 degrees. These are the most often used spanners.
Ring spanner
These kinds of spanners have spherical rings on one or both ends to drip nuts and bolts in order to tighten or loosen them. These rings are bent backward in relation to one another. Projected teeth are integrated into these rings, allowing six-sided nut bolts to be readily grabbed. It does not slip since it grabs all surfaces. Some ring spanners don’t have their ends bent.
Socket spanner
The shape of these spanners is that of a round socket. A square hole is drilled into one end of this type of spanner. On the other hand, like a ring spanner, grooves are carved outside in nut-bolt size. The Tommy bar, which has a square shape, is fastened in the square hole. These spanners are used when e ring spanners cannot be utilized due to a lack of room. Apart from that, socket spanners are also used to tighten nut bolts after measuring their torque with a torque wrench.

Box spanner
Pipes, thick or thin, are used to construct them. The ends of this spanner’s six sides are created on one or both ends, allowing nut bolts with six phases to be readily handled. On one or both ends of the rod, holes are drilled into which a rod can be inserted and utilized as a handle. It’s employed in places where there’s a lot of room.
Combination spanner
An open-end spanner is made on one end, while a ring spanner is made on the other end. The spanners are identical in size on both ends.
Hook spanner
These types of spanners are designed for nuts that do not have holes around the perimeter. These nuts don’t have any faces on them. As a result, the spanner’s pin becomes lodged in the hole and performs the function of rotating it to open or tighten it.
Adjustable spanner
These are specialized spanners, also referred to as screw wrenches. To tighten or loosen the nut bolts, its jaws can be stretched or shortened. They’re used for nuts that no other spanner will fit.
“T” Socket spanner
These spanners are almost identical to box spanners, but they have a fixed hand on top and a socket integrated into the bottom. These sockets come in a variety of sizes. They’re used in places where there is deep space.
Magneto spanner
It’s a collection of little single-end spanners. To tighten or open small nut bolts, a group of spanners of various sizes is connected together.
Allen key
These are thin steel rods with six faces bent at an angle of 90 degrees from one end. On the upper side, they have a six-faced hole. Tightening is accomplished with these bolts while maintaining the job’s surface level. These are available in a variety of sizes and quantities.
Pin face adjustable spanner
This spanner is produced by riveting two legs together. Each leg has a pin attached to the end of it. It’s used on round nuts with holes in the periphery for the spanner pin to go through. To utilize it on a variety of nuts, the space between its legs can be increased or decreased.
