ISA Releases Updated Third Edition of Control Systems Safety Evaluation & Reliability Book

The International Society of Automation (ISA) has just released the third edition of Control Systems Safety Evaluation and Reliability by William M. Goble.

The updated volume addresses emerging safety regulations and dives deep into reliability engineering for control system designers. It equips professionals with the knowledge to evaluate components, assess system architectures, negotiate with vendors, and produce accurate life‑cycle cost estimates.

Goble, a veteran with over 30 years of experience in analog and digital circuit design, software development, engineering management, and marketing, lays a solid foundation with probability, statistics, reliability theory, and modeling techniques. He then advances into safety‑instrumented systems and other critical topics. Each chapter ends with practical exercises that help readers apply the concepts in real‑world scenarios.

The book is also an ideal textbook for university courses, thanks to its clear explanations, hands‑on approach, and discussion of the gap between theory and practice.
