Pratt & Whitney Invests $386 Million in Columbus, GA Facility to Expand Engine Production and Services

Pratt & Whitney has announced a $386 million investment in its Columbus, Georgia facility, aimed at expanding production of parts and maintenance services for both new and existing engine programs while driving cost efficiencies.

The upgrade will include the construction of a 200,000‑square‑foot plant dedicated to overhauling GTF engines and a 20,000‑square‑foot specialized manufacturing complex. The new complex will house an isothermal forge press designed to produce turbine disks and compressor rotors for Pratt & Whitney’s commercial and military engines.

Today, the Columbus Engine Center maintains PW1100G‑JM, V2500, PW2000, F117 and F100 engines, while the Columbus Forge creates compressor airfoils and nickel‑ and titanium‑forged components that are machined into critical rotating parts. Both sites sit on a single campus about 90 miles south of Atlanta.

"We’re investing heavily in our Columbus facility to support the increased production and services planned for our F135 and GTF engines," said Chris Calio, president of Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines. "This investment will ensure we have the infrastructure, tooling and trained workforce needed to deliver the best products and services to customers worldwide."

In line with its commitment to workforce development, Pratt & Whitney has expanded its partnership with Columbus Technical College. The school will offer four‑ to nine‑week programs focused on aerospace mechanics and advanced manufacturing technologies, helping to build a skilled talent pipeline for the company’s growth.

Based in East Hartford, Connecticut, Pratt & Whitney is a global leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power units.
