U.S. Steel Names Raymond Terza as Managing Director for Coke Operations & Global Project Delivery
United States Steel Corporation announced on August 24 that Raymond R. Terza will serve as Managing Director of Coke Battery Assessment, Reliability and Rehabilitation.
In this newly created role, Terza will hold global responsibility for evaluating and maintaining all coke facilities—including new construction—while ensuring peak operational reliability.
He will also oversee U.S. Steel’s worldwide capital project delivery system, supervising the entire supply chain from needs assessment through scope development, cost estimating, appropriation, planning and execution.
Terza will relocate to Pittsburgh and report directly to Executive Vice President and COO John H. Goodish. His appointment becomes effective on September 1.
"Appointing a leader of Ray’s caliber and experience to focus on our worldwide coke‑making operations and the efficient implementation of capital projects is a testament to the importance we place on these two critical business functions," said U.S. Steel Chairman and CEO John P. Surma. "Ours is a raw‑materials‑driven, capital‑intensive, customer‑focused business. We believe there is no one more qualified than Ray to keep our coking operations and capital project delivery system functioning at peak efficiency."
Terza joined U.S. Steel in 1973 as a turn foreman in the machine shop at the former National‑Duquesne Works. Over the next three decades, he advanced through supervisory roles at National‑Duquesne, Homestead, Irvin, and Clairton Works. In 1992 he became Division Manager of Iron and Steel Production at Mon Valley Works, followed by a promotion to Plant Manager of Coke Operations at Gary Works in 1996 and Plant Manager of Primary Operations in 1997.
He rose to General Manager of Clairton Works in 2001, General Manager of Mon Valley Works in 2003, and in September 2004 was named General Manager of Gary Works, which encompassed integrated steelmaking operations in Gary, Indiana; East Chicago Tin in East Chicago, Indiana; and the Midwest Plant finishing operation in Portage, Indiana.
Terza holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from Duquesne University.
