BMW MSTEP Program: Premium 16‑Week Automotive Technician Training for Veterans
The automotive sector offers a natural transition for many military service members. It combines advanced technology, teamwork, and hands‑on skill—core competencies that veterans bring to the table.
With a nationwide shortage of automotive technicians, BMW of North America and Universal Technical Institute (UTI) have partnered to create a dedicated training hub at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California.
The 16‑week BMW MSTEP (Military Service Technician Education Program) is the first initiative of its kind delivered by a premium automotive manufacturer directly on a U.S. military installation. It welcomes all transitioning men and women—regardless of branch—and can be completed while on active duty with commander approval.
“As a former Marine, I understand and appreciate the sacrifices our veterans make in support of this great nation,” says John Decoteau III, vice president of campus and military admissions at UTI. “What better way to give back than providing our veterans with a competitive edge in the civilian workforce?”
Program Structure
The MSTEP cohort is capped at nine students per session, ensuring personalized instruction and ample hands‑on experience in a BMW‑specific workshop environment.
Like UTI’s STEP programs in Avondale, AZ, and Orlando, FL, the MSTEP curriculum is fully manufacturer‑funded. Graduates earn BMW Member Level technician status upon completion.
