Toshiba Launches Ultra‑Compact LDO Regulators for Mobile & AV Power Supplies
Toshiba Electronics Europe has unveiled two new lines of surface‑mount low‑dropout (LDO) regulators, the TCR5BM and TCR8BM series, designed to meet the demanding power‑supply needs of mobile devices, imaging systems and audio‑visual equipment.
Key specifications include:
- Dropout voltage as low as 100 mV (TCR5BM) and 170 mV (TCR8BM)
- Maximum output currents of 500 mA and 800 mA, respectively
- Adjustable output voltage from 0.8 V to 3.6 V
- 98 dB ripple‑rejection ratio for clean operation amid high‑frequency noise
- Fast load‑transient response to prevent malfunctions during rapid mode changes
- Quiescent currents of 19 µA (TCR5BM) and 20 µA (TCR8BM) – roughly 50 % lower than competing high‑current LDOs
The devices incorporate a low‑on‑resistance N‑channel MOSFET fabricated with Toshiba’s latest process and an external bias voltage, which dramatically reduces dropout losses and improves efficiency.
With a DFN‑5B package measuring just 1.2 × 1.2 mm, these regulators are ideal for compact power‑management circuits in microcontrollers, RF front ends, camera CMOS sensors, and other low‑voltage subsystems that demand high reliability and energy savings.
